Update on Caden

Caden had his second evaluation last week at the Department of Health-Child Development Clinic. At the first eval, he met with a Developmental Pediatrician and then for his second eval, he met with a child psychologist. After the second eval, they disgnosed him with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Integration Dysfunction, and Anxiety. We had suspected it for some time, but it was still very hard to hear. Erick and I have been very overwhelmed and pretty emotional all week. Caden will continue to do speech therapy and he will also be starting a Sensory Preschool. We are also hiring someone to come to our house to work with him. He has a hard road ahead, but we are very optimistic about his future, as are the doctors that we're working with.

The Party

We celebrated Caden's party the day after his birthday, but we gave him his big present (the cozy coupe) on his actual birthday. The party went really well. We had been telling Caden about birthdays for weeks and teaching him new signs, such as: Happy Birthday, present, cake, candle, party, and party hat. He still didn't really seem to understand what all the fuss was about, but he had a lot of fun anyway. After presents and cake, Caden looked at me and signed "party." I think it dawned on him that we were having the party that we had been telling him about for weeks. It was really cute. Without further ado, here are some pictures from his birthday and his party.

My Baby Boy is Two!!!

Caden Brock was born on June 13, 2006 at 5:37pm and weighed 8lbs 2oz and was 21 inches long. He had blond hair and blue eyes and was the sweetest little newborn. We are so happy that he is a part of our family and can't imagine life without his sweet face and his fun personality. I would be lying if I said that the last two years had been easy, because they haven't, but regardless of the hard times, it has been an awesome adventure. It started with physical therapy to treat Torticollis and then helmet therapy to treat Plagiocephaly, tubes to treat frequent ear infections that caused a hearing loss and now speech therapy and learning sign language due to Verbal Apraxia and possibly Autism. It has been overwhelming at times, but I wouldn't trade the last two years for anything. It has been such a great experience and I am so grateful that I am his Mom. Happy Birthday Caden!

Cupcake the kitten

Friday night, Erick came home from work with a kitten. He had found her wandering around at his work and he couldn't stand to leave her there all alone. The kids fell in love instantly, especially Caden. Caden signed "Caden's cat" over and over again. We seriously contemplated keeping her, but after watching her for 24 hours, decided that it would be best to drop her off at the shelter. She was much too small to be away from her Mama and she didn't know how to eat or drink out of bowl or use a litter box. So, on Saturday afternoon, we went and dropped Cupcake off at the vet's office that's down the street from our house. Cierra cried the most and is still sad about it today, but I know that she'll get over it eventually. Besides, we still have two very cute grown-up cats to take care :)
